Many Chromebook issues can be resolved by performing a Powerwash (factory reset). A Powerwash removes all user profiles, settings, and local data from the Chromebook and restores it to its default state. This often fixes login, enrollment, performance, and configuration issues.
โ ๏ธ Important: Any files stored locally on the Chromebook will be erased. Files saved in Google Drive will not be affected.
๐ Before You Begin
The most important part of the Powerwash process happens after the Chromebook resets.
Once the Chromebook returns to the setup screen, it must have an internet connection so it can re-enroll into the District's Google Workspace management system.
โ Recommended: Use a USB-to-Ethernet adapter if one is available. A wired connection allows the Chromebook to connect to the internet immediately after startup.
๐งน Performing a Powerwash
At the Chromebook login screen, press the following keys simultaneously:
SHIFT + CTRL + ALT + R
A "Reset this Chromebook" window will appear.
Click Powerwash
Click Continue to confirm the Powerwash
Wait for the Chromebook to erase all data and complete the factory reset. The Chromebook will proceed to a black Powerwash screen, perform the wipe, and reset.
๐ Initial Setup After the Reset
After the Powerwash is complete, the Chromebook will display the Welcome to your Chromebook screen.
Click Get Started
Connect the Chromebook to the internet:
โ
If using a wired Ethernet connection, click Next.
๐ถ If using Wi-Fi, select a wireless network that can access Google's cloud services.
โ ๏ธ Internet access is required to complete enrollment and setup.
๐ซ Automatic District Enrollment
Once an internet connection is established, the Chromebook will automatically begin Enterprise Enrollment.
During this process, the Chromebook will:
โ
Rejoin the District 93 Google Workspace environment
โ
Download district policies and settings
โ
Apply required configurations
โ
Prepare the device for student or staff use
โ Finishing Setup
When enrollment is complete, click Done.
The Chromebook will return to the standard District 93 login screen and is ready for use.
