💻 Updates for D93 Chromebooks
In an effort to avoid interruptions to valuable classroom time, we are transitioning away from forced, automatic updates that have historically caused unexpected reboots and frustrations for our students and staff. We understand the hardship this has been, especially on our younger students.
Staying up-to-date is still crucial, as the latest ChromeOS versions are required to support a variety of extensions used across the district.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Fast Updates: Updates will be downloaded and queued automatically. When you see a notification popup near the clock, it means the update files have already been downloaded! Just restart your Chromebook to apply the new version. Some devices may take longer to look for and start to download a ChromeOS update, in that case you may follow the instructions below to get the latest update.
- Manual Updates: If you’re waiting for an update and want to check for it yourself, just follow these steps (you can also do this to verify you have the latest ChromeOS version):
- Login to your Chromebook.
- Click the time ⏰ in the bottom right corner of your screen.
Click the gear icon ⚙️ to open your Settings.
- On the left-hand menu, select About ChromeOS (at the bottom of the list).
Click the Check for updates button. If there is an update this will download and then prompt for a restart.
Following these steps will ensure your Chromebook is always running the latest and most secure version of ChromeOS. 🎉
*Note: These changes are designed to limit interruptions to valuable instructional time for elementary and some secondary students, as their Chromebooks don't go home. For majority of secondary students, the district may decide to push updates to their devices while they are off campus to reduce network strain and classroom disruptions.
*Note: If you know there's a new ChromeOS version available but your Chromebook shows no update, or if you encounter errors during the update process, please let us know. Have your school secretary submit a work order so we can investigate and resolve the issue.
