The Microsoft Onedrive backup application is set to auto install and configure on all district owned windows desktop and laptop computers. This will auto backup the common user folders: Documents, Desktop, & Pictures to your @d93.k12.id.us work account. Please be aware that the Downloads folder is not included in the auto backup.
This is setup to work silently for all users, but unfortunately there are issues that arrise where the auto-backup stops working. So it is important to periodically check that your OneDrive is syncing correctly.
To see if it is working as intended, We first have to make sure it is running as a background task. We can check this by clicking on the carrot top (this button ^) near the clock on the bottom right of the Windows toolbar and look for the blue cloud icon that is OneDrive.
Clicking on the blue cloud OneDrive icon will bring up a view of our recently synced files. Here there are a few things to note:
1) The Bonneville School District name at the top
2) The 'Your files are synced' message
3) the list of recently uploaded/downloaded/deleted files.
We can also verify what is being backed up by clicking on 'Open folder' or 'View online' option at the bottom of the OneDrive notification pane.
'View online' will open a web browser and direct you to your OneDrive and show a current list of all your backed up files/folders on the cloud (this will also show shared files/folders you have access to). We can also drag & drop files directly here to save them to the cloud.
'Open folder' will show you everything on your OneDrive within the Windows explorer. We can verify the files/folders are being backed up by their 'Status'. If you see a blue cloud, green check mark, or solid green check mark it means that file/folder is being or already backed up to the OneDrive cloud. You can learn more about all the different status symbols from Microsoft OneDrive Support, but for the purpose of this article we are good if we see any of the 3 mentioned symbols.
Now the big question is: What if I don't see the blue cloud icon?. This can be caused by a variety of issues. So it's best to reach out to your school technician to have them check your computer for issues that you may have with auto-backup and silent configuration of OneDrive.
